Marjorie Taylor Greene and other lawmakers warned against sweeping aside state consumer and safety protections. The White House is also seeking to insert a federal AI framework into the annual defense bill, underscoring the administration’s view of AI as a strategic priority. Trump, who has courted Silicon Valley leaders, has already ordered agencies to remove “barriers” to AI and touted a “Genesis Mission” modeled on the Manhattan Project. State legislators argue federal preemption could undercut measures on transparency, procurement, and patient and creator protections they have enacted.
