AI wearable with a two-way camera aims to anticipate your needs

Singapore-based startup Lingverse is developing iKairos, a camera-equipped wearable that uses occasional still images and voice detection to anticipate when users might need help, raising fresh questions about privacy and consent. Backed by $29 million in funding, the device captures data locally but relies on cloud analysis, with user controls such as a physical camera shutter, a silent mode and options to manage data retention. The company plans a freemium model with paid features and targets 12 to 16 hours of battery life, but has yet to detail pricing, specific launch capabilities or which functions will sit behind a subscription. Founder Jiawei Gu, a former Jibo board member, is reviving elements of social robotics in a mobile form factor that can pivot its gaze between the wearer and surroundings to add context—an approach that could be useful, if consumers accept the trade-offs.
