Anthropic said it will seed a new public-benefit fund with 5% of its shares, with additional contributions of 2% triggered for every 50% increase in the company’s valuation, pending shareholder approval. The San Francisco-based AI firm, registered as a Delaware public benefit corporation and gearing up for a potential blockbuster U.S. IPO later this year that analysts say could top $2 trillion in value, said the fund can donate to nonprofits and make direct payments to affected populations but won’t finance lobbying or political causes. Anthropic framed the move as redirecting equity that typically accrues to executives toward the public good and said it may target AI-driven labor disruption, adding to a previously announced $200 million commitment. The announcement comes amid heightened scrutiny of frontier AI’s risks; McKinsey estimates as many as 11 million U.S. workers could change occupations over the next decade due to automation.
