A Jewish outreach group is marrying artificial intelligence with traditional matchmaking as concerns mount over authenticity on dating apps. Chabad’s Met@Chabad initiative plans a virtual speed-dating event on Aug. 9 for about 13,000 singles across 30-plus countries, using AI to suggest matches while local rabbis and rebbetzins vet every participant. Organizers say the technology will handle data and patterns, but mentors will provide judgment and guidance that algorithms can’t replicate. The effort, tied to the post–Tu B’Av season, extends beyond introductions to include courses and one-on-one coaching aimed at preparing couples for marriage. The push reflects a broader trend: daters increasingly seek human oversight and values-based support as AI-generated profiles and messages proliferate online.
