Two senior AI researchers, Jonas Adler and Alexander Pritzel, are leaving Google for Anthropic, according to Bloomberg, marking the latest in a string of high-profile exits from the search giant’s AI ranks. Their departures follow Noam Shazeer’s move to OpenAI and DeepMind director John Jumper’s jump to Anthropic; Jumper, along with Demis Hassabis, was recognized with the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for work on AlphaFold. The exits come as OpenAI and Anthropic prepare to go public, giving them fresh leverage to recruit with equity. TechCrunch said it asked Google for comment. The drift underscores intensifying competition for scarce AI talent and raises questions about Google’s ability to retain key researchers behind its Gemini model.
