Microsoft introduced a new operating unit, Microsoft Frontier Company, to spearhead enterprise AI deployments across its customer base. Backed by a $2.5 billion commitment and 6,000 industry and engineering specialists, the group will focus on implementing Microsoft’s AI stack for large clients, with early work cited at the London Stock Exchange Group, Unilever, Land O’Lakes and Accenture. While the company avoided labeling the effort as forward-deployed engineering, the move positions Microsoft more directly against rivals cultivating hands-on AI services, including Amazon Web Services and model providers such as OpenAI and Anthropic. The initiative underscores intensifying competition to convert enterprise interest in generative AI into spend, bundling software, infrastructure and on-the-ground expertise to drive measurable outcomes.
