Volta Infra raised $300 million in venture funding and lined up $5 billion in customer financing to expand access to scarce and expensive AI chips, valuing the startup at $2.4 billion. The round was co-led by Andreessen Horowitz and Altimeter Capital, with participation from Nvidia and Michael Dell, and follows Volta’s securing of 1 gigawatt of near-term power for data centers. The company also signed a six-year, $10 billion computing-capacity deal with a leading AI developer, to be delivered in part with Bitdeer at a 133-megawatt site in Norway, with additional buildouts planned in Texas and Wyoming. Founded by former Brookfield infrastructure executives, Volta aims to bridge the funding gap for AI labs and startups that lack the balance sheets to prepay for top-tier GPUs. The push comes as the industry experiments with creative financing structures—linking chipmakers, cloud upstarts, and AI labs—raising concerns about interdependencies if demand cools. Dell will serve as a technology partner to equip Volta’s facilities.
