Stanford University apologized after a campus dining promotion used an AI-altered photo that replaced a Hispanic male student with an AI-generated Black female and slimmed two others, breaching the school’s marketing policy. The student whose image was removed said he felt erased and misrepresented, according to student newspaper The Stanford Review and the New York Times. The university called the edits a serious error in judgment, removed the banners, and launched an investigation to prevent a repeat. The incident highlights growing concerns over the use of AI in marketing and representation on college campuses.
