President Trump ruled out any joint U.S.–China effort to develop artificial intelligence, arguing such collaboration would risk exposing U.S. technological secrets to its chief economic rival. The remarks came as the White House launched America.gov, an AI-powered portal for federal services, days after Washington and Beijing agreed to begin an AI dialogue and set up a crisis-communications channel. Trump, who says the U.S. leads in AI, urged industry self-regulation following a meeting with executives from OpenAI, Anthropic and Meta, and said he will appoint a “Super Intelligence Czar” while moving to rebrand AI as “Super Intelligence” in federal documents. The stance comes amid rising public anxiety over AI risks, even among his supporters, and signals a tougher line on cross-border AI cooperation despite ongoing talks with Beijing.
