The initiative would be housed within a new bilateral AI dialogue to be weighed by President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping at a Washington summit this week, though analysts see slim odds of a sweeping AI accord amid mutual distrust. U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said the discussions won’t alter existing export controls on advanced chips and manufacturing gear that have constrained Chinese AI firms. Both sides moved to activate a previously announced “Board of Trade” and are exploring tariff reductions on non-sensitive goods, even as a fragile trade truce faces a Nov. 10 expiration.
