A surge in AI-aided insurance scams is testing the industry’s defenses, with UK-based Admiral reporting a 71% rise in fraud in 2025 versus the prior year. Fraudsters are using synthetic images to fabricate high-value items, alter number plates to duplicate claims, and exaggerate vehicle damage, according to the insurer. The Insurance Fraud Bureau said both opportunistic claimants and organized crime groups are exploiting generative tools to scale document and image manipulation. Insurers are responding with image-forensics and anti-fraud software to spot tampering, while sharing intelligence across the sector. Consumers caught cheating face rejected claims, canceled policies and potential prosecution—costs that ultimately filter into higher premiums for everyone.
