The White House chief of staff met Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei to discuss the company’s new “Mythos” AI model, which Washington is scrutinizing for both its economic promise and security risks. The talks come amid a bitter clash between the Trump administration and Anthropic over defense uses of AI, including an unprecedented attempt to label the firm a supply-chain risk—an action now partly checked by a federal judge. Anthropic has limited Mythos to select users, citing its ability to outpace human experts in finding software flaws; the UK’s AI Security Institute called the model a step up in capability. The company is also courting regulators in Europe and rallying industry heavyweights through “Project Glasswing” to harden critical software. The discussions underscore a broader policy dilemma: how to harness frontier AI for national advantage without compromising safety or enabling misuse.
