Klarna CEO Sebastian Siemiatkowski stated that the fintech company reduced its workforce by around 40%, in part due to its increased use of artificial intelligence and natural employee attrition following a hiring freeze. The firm, which provides buy now, pay later services, aggressively adopted AI in areas like customer service, leading to automation of tasks previously performed by hundreds of human agents. Klarna partnered with OpenAI and unveiled an AI assistant that replaced many customer support roles. Despite layoffs and hiring freezes, some open roles remain, mainly in Europe. The company, headquartered in Sweden, has delayed its anticipated IPO amid recent market turbulence, with no updated timeline yet announced.
