Authentic Brands Group, which controls Elvis Presley’s catalog and likeness, filed suit alleging Anthropic trained its Claude AI model on 274 Presley songs without authorization. The complaint seeks up to $150,000 per work—roughly $41 million—and argues Anthropic built its business on large-scale infringement despite ineffective guardrails. The case, among the first by a major artist’s estate against an AI developer, could set precedent for how music catalogs may be used in AI training. It comes amid expanding industry pushback, including lawsuits by labels and publishers against AI firms and growing scrutiny of AI-generated tracks on streaming platforms.
