SpaceX has shown investors a prototype AI-focused handset ahead of its recent IPO, according to people familiar with the matter. The device, reportedly slimmer than an iPhone, runs a proprietary operating system and integrates technology from SpaceX’s xAI; its design remains early and subject to change. The effort comes after Elon Musk criticized Apple’s control of app distribution and floated an “everything app” strategy for X, including payments via X Money, though he publicly denied in February that SpaceX was developing a phone. Following SpaceX’s absorption of xAI earlier this year, the company closed a $60 billion purchase of AI coding startup Cursor to bolster its software capabilities. SpaceX did not respond to a request for comment.
